MOSCOW (Voice of Russia): Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said that Moscow has no plans for an armed confrontation with Western Europe and that Russia poses a threat to no country.
Reacting to a statement by the head of Germany’s foreign intelligence agency during her weekly press briefing, Zakharova said that if Germany’s top intelligence official is presenting his personal assumptions publicly, it shows that Europe is indeed in a dangerous situation.
She said Russia is not threatening anyone. President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov have made it clear on numerous occasions that Russia has no intention of starting an armed conflict with Western Europe.
Zakharova demanded that European officials clarify the reasons and evidence behind their claims about Russia’s alleged threat. She questioned on what basis those making such accusations explain the motives and reasons for the alleged actions attributed to Russia.
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman accused certain European countries of rapidly moving toward militarization. According to her, this process includes not only expanding the defense industry but also promoting anti-Russian sentiment among the European public and the notion of an allegedly inevitable war with Russia.
Zakharova said the Russian president has clarified his position on this matter on numerous occasions. She warned that if there is aggression against Russia from Western Europe or the European Union, it will be answered.
She said that to understand the nature of Russia’s possible response, President Vladimir Putin’s relevant statements can be studied again.
