Following missile and drone attacks by Yemen’s Houthis on Abha and King Khalid International Airports, numerous flights arriving in and departing from the Saudi capital Riyadh have been cancelled.
According to Gulf News, after two airports were targeted in Saudi Arabia over the past few days, several international and local airlines have cancelled or postponed flights to Riyadh.
Singapore Airlines has postponed its plan to start new flights to Riyadh until March 28. Philippines Airlines has also cancelled flights to the Saudi capital until at least October 11.
Besides Saudi Arabia’s national carrier Saudia, Egypt Air, IndiGo and Air India also cancelled dozens of flights departing from Riyadh on Thursday.
Similarly, air operations at King Khalid International Airport were repeatedly suspended for several hours over the past few days and resumed when the situation improved.
Due to the Houthis’ continuous aerial attacks, the biggest challenge for Saudi authorities is ensuring safe landing and take-off of aircraft at the airports.
Abha Airport, located in the southwestern region of Saudi Arabia, has also been hit by recent attacks, further disrupting normal air travel in the region.
It should be noted that 3 people, including two women, were killed and 36 injured in the attacks on Saudi Arabia’s Abha International Airport and Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport.
