Moscow:(Voice Of Russia) Russia recorded a significant increase in its mineral reserves during the first half of the year, with diamond reserves rising by more than 100 million carats, while major additions were also reported in gold, silver, platinum-group metals and other key resources.
Oleg Kazanov, head of Russia’s Federal Agency for Subsoil Use, Rosnedra, said the country added 102.4 million carats to its diamond reserves.
He said reserves of platinum-group metals increased by 12.1 metric tons, while gold reserves grew by 176.6 metric tons and silver reserves by 1,400 metric tons.
Russia also added 340,000 metric tons of copper, 273,100 metric tons of zinc and 48,800 metric tons of lead to its reserves.
During the same period, iron ore reserves increased by 133.3 million metric tons, while coal reserves rose by 163.4 million metric tons.
Kazanov said the increase was not driven only by the discovery of new deposits. He noted that further geological exploration and the reassessment of existing deposits also played an important role in expanding Russia’s recorded mineral reserves.
