Moscow: Russia has initiated legal proceedings to recover losses from the freezing of its assets in the European Union, a senior Russian foreign ministry official confirmed.
Vladislav Maslennikov, Director of the Ministry’s Department of European Affairs, stated that in December 2025, the Bank of Russia filed a claim with Moscow’s Court of Arbitration against the Euroclear depository. The lawsuit aims to recover funds that Russia could not access due to the freezing measures imposed by EU authorities.
Maslennikov emphasized that Russia, including through its foreign ministry, will continue efforts to reclaim assets that it considers illegally held within the European Union.
He also underlined that any unauthorized use or seizure of Russian assets is regarded as theft, and Russia intends to respond appropriately to such actions.
