Moscow (Shahid Ghumman): Diplomatic engagements are gaining momentum in Russia ahead of the expected visit of Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to Moscow.
Speaking at her weekly press briefing, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova announced that a Russia–Pakistan Media Forum will be held in Moscow on 27 February. The forum is being organized in connection with the planned visit of the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Zakharova stated that the event will take place at the International Multimedia Press Center “Rossiya Segodnya” and will bring together Russian and Pakistani journalists, diplomats, political analysts, and experts.
She noted that discussions will focus on the ongoing tectonic shifts in the international system, modern trends in global journalism, and practical cooperation between media institutions of the two countries. According to her, one of the key objectives of the forum is to ensure that the citizens of Russia and Pakistan receive objective, first-hand information about each other and global developments.
The spokesperson further added that the event will not be limited to Moscow. A telebridge between Moscow and Islamabad will be organized, and the proceedings will be broadcast on Russian and Pakistani media platforms.
In this context, Dunya News correspondent Shahid Ghumman asked how Russia views the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the broader framework of bilateral relations, and whether any concrete progress or agreements could be expected in the areas of energy, industrial cooperation, and trade.
Responding to the question, Maria Zakharova said that announcements regarding high-level meetings and potential agreements are made by the Presidential Administration. Therefore, she emphasized, one should wait for official information from that level.
According to analysts, the announcement of the Russia–Pakistan Media Forum signals that bilateral engagement is entering a more active phase, with possible diplomatic and economic developments expected in the coming days.
