MOSCOW (Voice of Russia): Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said that great hopes around the world are pinned on a possible trilateral meeting in China between Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. According to her, talks between the leaders of three major world powers could provide an important opportunity to reduce current international tensions and make progress toward global stability.
Speaking on a television programme on October 25, Maria Zakharova said that the world is currently going through an extremely difficult period in international relations, and that the uncertainty arising at the global level has affected almost the entire world.
She said that in such circumstances, the heads of three major powers such as Russia, the United States and China could get an opportunity to exchange views with each other on the sidelines of a multilateral international forum.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, the eyes of millions, indeed billions, of people around the world will be focused on this possible meeting, because the international community considers dialogue between major powers important for emerging from the current tensions and uncertainty.
Maria Zakharova said that many people want the world to move away from the current trend toward complete disorder and return to stability, or at least set out on a path that could form the basis of global stability in the future.
She expressed hope that possible talks between the leaders of the three countries could prove important for positive progress in world affairs.
US President Donald Trump has previously also expressed the possibility of a trilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping in China.
On the other hand, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov had told journalists that Russian President Vladimir Putin had also discussed the possibility of this proposed trilateral meeting during his meeting with US presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff.
According to Yuri Ushakov, the possibility was discussed of the three world leaders meeting on November 18 and 19 in the Chinese city of Shenzhen, on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.
The possible meeting of the heads of Russia, the United States and China is under consideration at a time when the role of all three countries is extremely important with regard to international relations, global security and various regional conflicts. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, a high-level meeting of this nature could provide an opportunity for direct talks between major powers, which is hoped to strengthen efforts to reduce tensions at the global level and restore stability.
