Peshawar (Voice of Russia): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has said that the Pakistan Peoples Party’s current actions appear to be an attempt to create another East Pakistan.
Addressing a provincial cabinet meeting, he said the step taken by the Governor yesterday was highly regrettable and condemnable. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has an elected government with a two-thirds majority of the people; the provincial assembly, cabinet and government are fully functional.
He said the Governor is summoning the Chief Secretary and the IG to hold unconstitutional meetings, which is an attack on the Constitution and democracy. The PPP has played a wrong role in the past as well.
Sohail Afridi said that with a two-thirds majority government in place, the Governor’s meeting is unacceptable, and no conspiracy to break Pakistan will be allowed to succeed. The Advocate General will be consulted on the constitutional status of the meeting.
He said no one would be allowed to strike at democracy. The Governor’s activities are aimed at provoking the provincial government.
The Chief Minister said the situation deteriorated after terrorism reared its head again in the province. Since taking oath on October 15, 2025, the police, CTD and Special Branch are being strengthened.
He said the federation has always treated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa like a stepmother. Despite the merger of the tribal districts in 2018, the financial merger remains incomplete, and compensation of nearly 100 billion rupees for the affected people is still due.
Sohail Afridi said 21 billion rupees have so far been provided for displaced persons. The federation should upgrade the province’s NFC share and clear its dues.
He said that despite 14,000 intelligence-based operations and 22 major military operations in 22 years, the failure to establish peace is a failure of federal policy. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa can establish peace in 100 days.
