ISLAMABAD: (Shehryar Shahid) Pakistan and Russia held the 12th meeting of the Pakistan-Russia Joint Working Group on Countering International Terrorism in Islamabad on June 23, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation against terrorism and enhancing regional security.
The Pakistani delegation was led by Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Muhammad Khalid Khan Jamali, while the Russian side was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Dmitry Lyubinsky.
During the meeting, both sides discussed the evolving terrorist threat in the region, with particular focus on terrorism emanating from Afghanistan and the risks it poses to neighboring countries and broader regional stability.
The two delegations reviewed the current state of bilateral cooperation in the field of counterterrorism and exchanged views on emerging security challenges. They also explored ways to further strengthen coordination and engagement at regional and international platforms, particularly within the United Nations (UN) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Both countries reaffirmed their shared commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and emphasized the importance of continued cooperation to promote peace, security, and stability in the region.
The meeting reflected the growing momentum in Pakistan-Russia relations and underscored the importance both countries attach to joint efforts in addressing common security challenges.
