Moscow(Voice Of Russia) Russia has reaffirmed Iran’s right to self-defense under international law, according to Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
Speaking at a briefing, Zakharova said Iran, like all other nations, has the right to defend itself in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
She emphasized that attacks on civilian targets and critical infrastructure in Iran, neighboring Arab countries, and elsewhere are unacceptable. The Russian diplomat also called on the United States and Israel to halt their aggression and return to the negotiating table.
Zakharova stressed that all parties involved in the current conflict in the Middle East must exercise restraint, avoid double standards, and make efforts to end the confrontation as soon as possible through peaceful dialogue.
She added that Russia will continue taking steps to reduce tensions in the region and promote peaceful solutions to disputes.
According to Zakharova, Moscow also intends to keep advancing its concept of common and indivisible security in the Gulf region, aimed at ensuring that the interests of all countries in the region are respected.
