GUJRANWALA (Voice of Russia): The Business Group has won the Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Associate Class elections, securing 2,524 panel votes against the rival One Unity Vision Group’s 2,133, according to provisional, unofficial results.
Supporters celebrated the Business Group’s 391-vote lead by performing bhangra to drumbeats and showering currency notes.
Both groups fielded 15 candidates each in the Associate Class elections. Following the provisional panel results, the election commission is continuing to count the votes received by individual candidates.
Expressing his delight at the result, Business Group leader Sheikh Amir Rehman described it as a victory for humility. He said the affection and confidence shown by voters would always be remembered.
He expressed confidence that the Business Group would also win the Corporate Class elections and continue its mission of serving the business community after assuming the chamber’s leadership.
Business Group leaders Rana Nasir, Rana Siddique, Mian Umar Saleem, Farrukh Ejaz and Nayyar Jamil Ballu Bhatti also thanked voters for their support and reaffirmed their commitment to serving the business community.
The Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Corporate Class elections will be held on Monday, September 21.
