ATLANTA (Voice of Russia): The two-day meeting of the foreign ministers of the G20 countries in the American city of Atlanta ended without consensus on important global issues.
Important matters discussed at the meeting included the Russia-Ukraine war, the US and Israeli war against Iran, American trade tariffs and tensions in the South China Sea.
No joint declaration could be issued at the end of the meeting, however, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a chairman’s statement containing shared priorities.
Due to differences over Russia’s participation, the traditional group photo was also cancelled. European diplomats had objected to the presence of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
The meeting also discussed keeping important maritime trade routes, including the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, open, as well as energy, food security and global supply chain matters.
On the other hand, on the Middle East situation, Iran warned the United States and Israel to refrain from attacks, while Saudi Arabia claimed to have foiled a drone attack.
Despite the differences, the participants agreed to continue efforts to make the G20 summit to be held in Florida next month a success.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio acknowledged that deep differences still exist between countries on resolving global issues.
