MOSCOW (Voice of Russia): An important consultative meeting on regional security and international activities at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states was held at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with active participation from Pakistan.
During the meeting held on April 24, 2026, discussions focused on enhancing coordination among SCO member states and strengthening the organization’s effectiveness in advancing its international initiatives. Special attention was given to reinforcing the regional security architecture and modernizing mechanisms to address emerging challenges and threats.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, represented the country at the meeting and highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in facilitating the “Islamabad Talks.”
He described the SCO as a vital platform for promoting regional peace, security, and cooperation, and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the organization’s principles, the UN Charter, and international law.
The Ambassador also emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to combat terrorism, extremism, and illegal drug trafficking, while underlining the importance of ensuring comprehensive security and sustainable development across the SCO region.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Ambassador Tirmizi held meetings with the heads of delegations from Russia, Belarus, Tajikistan, China, and Kyrgyzstan to discuss key issues related to cooperation within the SCO framework.
