MOSCOW (Voice of Russia): The telephonic conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump lasted an hour and a half, which the Kremlin described as detailed, substantive and friendly.
Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov told journalists that President Trump began the conversation by warmly congratulating President Putin on his birthday and expressing wishes for his success and prosperity. The US president also conveyed good wishes on behalf of his wife Melania Trump.
According to Yuri Ushakov, the conversation between the two leaders was so long and friendly that neither wanted to be the first to hang up. President Trump said he was ready to continue talking with President Putin today, this evening, tonight and the next day as well.
The two presidents expressed satisfaction over the continuity of contacts between Russia and the United States through the presidential administrations, intelligence agencies and other relevant departments.
President Putin told President Trump that Russia’s position regarding the objectives of the special military operation has not changed. However, Moscow remains ready for a political and diplomatic settlement to achieve lasting and sustainable peace.
According to Yuri Ushakov, resuming the Russia-US-Ukraine trilateral talks after the Russian parliamentary elections was under consideration, but alleged Ukrainian attacks during the elections affected the prospects of an immediate resumption of talks. Now Russia will decide after reviewing the situation when the talks can be resumed.
President Putin also briefed the US president in detail about the measures taken by Russia in response to Ukrainian attacks. He said Kyiv has chosen the path of escalating tensions and prolonging the conflict.
The Russian president said Russian forces have complete operational superiority on the line of contact and are advancing with confidence. Ukrainian attempts to halt the advance by carrying out attacks inside Russian territory will not succeed.
The two leaders did not set a final date for the next in-person meeting. According to Yuri Ushakov, President Putin and President Trump intend to participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, APEC, summit in China. If both leaders are present at the summit, a meeting between them is likely.
President Putin and President Trump also discussed the preparation of major economic projects, including the possible supply of Russian petroleum products to American and global markets.
President Putin thanked US First Lady Melania Trump for her role in reuniting Russian and Ukrainian children with their families. It was also agreed to maintain constant contact between Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova and Melania Trump’s staff regarding the humanitarian situation in the city of Alyoshki in the Kherson region.
On the situation in Iran, President Putin said diplomatic possibilities are not yet exhausted and an agreement can be reached through negotiations with Tehran. He also said Moscow’s offer to transfer Iran’s enriched uranium to Russia still stands.
Yuri Ushakov further said that US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner also expressed good wishes for President Putin, and Witkoff expressed hope of meeting the Russian president soon.
