TURKMENBASHI (Voice of Russia): Russian President Vladimir Putin held a bilateral meeting with his Turkmen counterpart Serdar Berdimuhamedow during his working visit to Turkmenistan.
According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, following an official dinner, the two leaders met at the Avaza complex and discussed key issues concerning the rapidly developing bilateral relations between Russia and Turkmenistan.
Avaza is Turkmenistan’s national tourist zone on the coast of the Caspian Sea, located near the city of Turkmenbashi. Key international events, including the Commonwealth summit and the Caspian environmental summit conference, are being held in this area.
President Putin and President Berdimuhamedow remain in regular contact. Their most recent phone conversation took place a day earlier, in which the Turkmen president congratulated Vladimir Putin on his birthday.
According to the Kremlin, despite their constant phone contacts, both presidents also use face-to-face meetings as opportunities to exchange views on bilateral and regional matters.
President Putin visited Turkmenistan less than a year ago. On that occasion he took part in the international forum “Peace and Trust: Unity of Purposes for a Sustainable Future” held to mark the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.
