MOSCOW (Voice of Russia): The Russian Defense Ministry has said that air defense systems destroyed 399 Ukrainian drones overnight over various Russian regions and the Black Sea. During the attacks, a fire broke out at the data center of Russian technology company Yandex in the Ryazan region, while industrial facilities, power systems and residential buildings were also damaged in other areas.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, 399 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones were intercepted and destroyed from 8 pm on October 7 to 8 am on October 8.
The drones were shot down over 21 Russian regions including Belgorod, Bryansk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetsk, Oryol, Orenburg, Penza, Rostov, Ryazan, Samara, Saratov, Smolensk, Tambov, Tula, Ulyanovsk, Moscow, Bashkortostan and Tatarstan, the Republic of Crimea and the Black Sea.
According to Rostov region Governor Yuri Slyusar, more than 30 drones were destroyed over Kamensk-Shakhtinsky and several districts. Voronezh region Governor Alexander Gusev reported 26 drones shot down over the region, while two drones were intercepted in the Ryazan region.
A drone attack in the city of Sasovo in the Ryazan region caused a fire at Yandex’s data center and damaged part of the facility’s infrastructure. According to the company, there were no casualties in the incident, but the data center’s operations have been fully suspended and some Yandex services may be temporarily unavailable.
Yandex said the load of the affected cloud zone has been transferred to other available zones. The company’s services in other regions are operating normally, but the ability to create new resources in the cloud infrastructure may be limited.
In the Sasovsky district of Ryazan, a fire also broke out on the roof of an industrial enterprise and windows of several private homes were shattered. According to authorities, there were no casualties and emergency services are working at the affected sites.
In the industrial area of the city of Salavat in Bashkortostan, debris from a downed drone caused a fire. Work continued at the relevant industrial enterprise and no injuries were reported.
In Krasnodar, drone debris also fell within the premises of an industrial enterprise, damaging the building and causing a fire. Rescue workers quickly brought the fire under control and there were no casualties.
After drone attacks in the western and central regions of Crimea, electricity was cut off in several settlements. According to the state power company, electricity supply has been limited in some areas for repair work and alternative systems are being used.
In the Kirovsky district of Donetsk city, a person born in 1981 was injured in a drone attack and was taken to hospital. The attack also damaged the windows of a private house.
In the Kalininsky district of Gorlovka, two passenger buses running on routes two and nineteen were also affected. The driver-side windows of both buses were shattered, but no casualties were reported.
