Mexico City (Voice of Russia): Mexico’s state oil and gas company Pemex has fully halted fuel supplies to Cuba during the third quarter of this year over the threat of US sanctions.
According to the Mexican newspaper El Universal, a report filed by Pemex with the US Securities and Exchange Commission states that its subsidiary “Servicios Logísticos y Recursos Estratégicos” shipped no fuel cargoes to Cuba during the third quarter.
The report says fuel supplies to Cuba had already been sharply reduced in the first half of the year. Between January and June 2026, Mexico supplied Cuba with an average of only 900 barrels of fuel per day.
This is a tiny fraction of the amounts supplied in the previous two years. In the first half of 2024, Mexico supplied Cuba with an average of 19,200 barrels per day, while the figure for the same period of 2025 stood at 19,600 barrels per day.
Supplies fell to just 900 barrels per day in the first half of this year and were halted completely in the third quarter.
According to El Universal, the reduction and subsequent full suspension of fuel supplies is aimed at avoiding US sanctions that could target countries and companies supplying crude oil to Cuba.
