MOSCOW Moscow: (Shahid Ghumman): President of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, Professor Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, has said that religious and spiritual leaders can play an important role in promoting peace and harmony among nations amid ongoing wars, conflicts and growing global unrest.
In an exclusive interview with Dunya News on the sidelines of an international religious conference in Moscow, Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri said the event was organised by the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia in cooperation with relevant Russian institutions.
He said religious, spiritual, political, social and academic figures from nearly 56 countries participated in the conference.
According to Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, religious leaders, government representatives, university vice-chancellors and academics from different countries shared their views on the major challenges facing the world.
He said the two-day conference focused particularly on how religious and spiritual figures could contribute effectively to ending wars, conflicts and instability in different regions of the world.
Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri said the discussions and proposals presented by representatives of various countries were highly useful.
He described the conference as an effective international platform for promoting dialogue, mutual respect and cooperation among different religions and cultures.
He said the world is familiar with Muslim communities living in the Middle East and other regions, but there is relatively limited international awareness about the millions of Muslims living in Russia, Moscow and the Central Asian states, as well as their history, culture and role in society.
Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri said more than 3.5 million Muslims live in Moscow, while Russia and the Central Asian states are home to a significant Muslim population.
He said international conferences of this kind provide an opportunity to present the lives, religious activities and positive social contributions of Russian Muslims to the wider world.
He added that the Russian government supports various religious, social and cultural activities related to Islam and Muslims.
According to him, holding such a conference with government support would help convey the views and experiences of Muslims living in Russia to the international community.
Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri said he represented Pakistan at the conference and conveyed a message of peace and goodwill on behalf of the Pakistani people.
He said Pakistan has always supported peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and meaningful dialogue among different religions, civilisations and nations.
He further said that Pakistan’s participation in international events held in Russia, along with stronger contacts between the religious, academic and social circles of the two countries, would help strengthen Pakistan-Russia relations.
Such initiatives, he added, could bring the two countries closer and create new opportunities for mutual cooperation.
