MOSCOW: (Shahid Ghumman) The streets of the Russian capital were filled with thousands of motorcyclists as Moscow hosted the 15th Moscow Motorcycle Festival, marking the end of the motorcycle season with a large-scale rally, sporting events and live entertainment.
According to Moscow’s Department of Transport, more than 20,000 motorcyclists participated in the festival held on September 19. One of the main highlights was a mass motorcycle ride along Moscow’s famous Garden Ring, led by representatives of 35 motorcycle clubs and organisations.
Thousands of motorcycles of different makes and models travelled together through the Russian capital, creating a spectacular scene on the city’s roads. Traffic on the outer side of the Garden Ring was temporarily restricted to ensure the safe passage of the convoy and was restored after the riders had passed.
The main festival activities were held on Academician Sakharov Avenue, where a variety of sporting and entertainment events were organised for motorcycle enthusiasts and visitors. This year’s festival was dedicated to Russia’s Year of the Unity of the Peoples.
Motorcyclists demonstrated their skills in motor rodeo and flat-track racing, while spectators were also treated to a fire stunt show. Competitions including Moto Lady and Moto Brat were held, and a motorcycle was awarded to a participant through a prize draw.
Music was another major part of the festival. Popular Russian singer MOT and music group IOWA performed on the main stage, adding live entertainment to the season-closing celebrations.
Moscow Deputy Mayor Maxim Liksutov said events of this kind provide an opportunity to promote responsible behaviour on the roads and highlight the importance of safe riding. According to him, the number of motorcyclists in the Russian capital has now exceeded 130,000.
The Moscow Motorcycle Festival has become one of the capital’s major events marking the opening and closing of the motorcycle season. With a mass ride, motorcycle sports, stunt performances and live music, this year’s closing festival brought together thousands of riders and spectators in the heart of Moscow.
