MOSCOW (Voice of Russia): Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s attempts to present himself as Europe’s “defender” will not end well.
In an interview with Russian media, Lavrov stated that Zelensky claims Ukraine has the strength, experience, and the largest army in Europe to defend the continent. However, according to him, such a situation is unlikely to lead to positive outcomes.
He further said that Zelensky is pushing for Ukraine’s immediate accession to the European Union, which would mean admitting a country that, in his view, has established a system that has imposed restrictions on Russian culture and the Orthodox Church.
Lavrov added that despite these circumstances, the European Union continues to portray Zelensky as a defender of European values, while no specific timeline has been given for Ukraine’s membership.
According to the Russian foreign minister, Zelensky may also be seeking to lead a new European military formation, which is reportedly being shaped primarily by Germany and the United Kingdom.
He noted that Zelensky has publicly mentioned the European Union, the United Kingdom, Norway, and even Turkey, envisioning Ukraine at the forefront of this proposed military structure.
