Berin (V0ice of Russia): The European Union fears that Bulgarian political leader Rumen Radev could emerge as a new obstacle to continued support for Ukraine, potentially replacing Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in this role, according to a report by German newspaper Die Welt.
Radev, leader of the Progressive Bulgaria party, reportedly opposes supplying weapons to Ukraine and has called on the EU to restore relations with Russia, including resuming imports of Russian oil.
If Radev becomes prime minister and follows through on his campaign promises, he may cancel all military supply agreements to Ukraine signed by Bulgaria’s interim government in March and maintain this stance in broader EU decision-making.
Early parliamentary elections were held in Bulgaria on April 19, where Progressive Bulgaria secured around 44.6% of the vote. The party is expected to win more than 130 out of 240 parliamentary seats, enabling it to form a government independently.
Analysts believe this development could deepen divisions within the EU regarding its policy toward Ukraine.
