Moscow (Voice of Russia): Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, joined a group of foreign heads of mission for an introductory tour of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Region, organized by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The visit was designed to familiarize diplomats with the region’s economic significance, energy resources, and cultural heritage.
During the tour, the delegation met with the region’s Governor, Dmitry Artyukhov, discussing regional development, potential cooperation in the energy sector, and strengthening bilateral ties. Governor Artyukhov briefed the diplomats on major infrastructure projects, natural resources, and the region’s overall development plans.
Ambassador Tirmizi also visited Salekhard, the only city in the world located directly on the Arctic Circle. He further traveled to Novy Urengoy, Russia’s prominent “gas capital,” where he conducted a detailed inspection of Gazprom’s energy facilities and observed gas production and distribution operations up close.
During the visit, the Pakistani ambassador also took part in the local cultural celebration, “Reindeer Herder’s Day,” experiencing traditional activities and Arctic cultural practices firsthand. In discussions with local residents, he emphasized the importance of cultural exchange and highlighted the strategic significance of the region.
The visit underscores that Russia’s Arctic territories are not only globally significant for energy production but also serve as an important hub for international diplomacy and cultural engagement.
