ISLAMABAD ( Shehryar Shahid) The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Pakistan held a special press briefing for Pakistani media on June 9 regarding the situation in Ukraine, following what Moscow described as a cynical attack by the Ukrainian army on a dormitory and the educational building of a pedagogical college in the city of Starobelsk.
Speaking to journalists, Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Albert P. Khorev said the attack resulted in the deaths of 21 young people under the age of 23, while more than 60 others were injured. He described the incident as a grave act of terrorism and condemned what he called the deliberate targeting of civilians.
The ambassador informed media representatives that, in response to the attack, Russia had decided to give a new dimension to its military operations in Ukraine. According to him, future Russian military actions will focus on decision-making centers, command posts, and enterprises of Ukraine’s defense industry, including facilities located in Kyiv. He stated that these operations would be conducted in a systematic and consistent manner.
During the briefing, Ambassador Khorev also commented on recent attacks targeting the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and the city of Energodar, describing them as dangerous provocations that threaten regional security. He further criticized drone strikes carried out in the cities of Yenakiyevo and Genichesk and accused Ukraine of attempting to disrupt the ongoing St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
The Russian envoy reiterated Moscow’s position that attacks on civilian facilities and critical infrastructure are unacceptable and stressed that Russia would continue taking measures aimed at ensuring its national security and protecting civilians in areas affected by the conflict.
