MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump on Monday evening, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said.
According to Ushakov, the discussion between the two leaders was businesslike, open, and constructive, as is usually the case in dialogue between the Russian and US presidents.
He noted that Donald Trump initiated the call to discuss several important issues related to the latest developments in the global situation. The conversation reportedly lasted for about one hour.
The Kremlin aide also said that the US president emphasized the need to maintain regular contacts between the two leaders, as had been previously agreed. Both sides expressed readiness to continue such communication.
Ushakov added that the conversation was meaningful and could have practical significance for future cooperation between Russia and the United States on various international issues.
This was the first publicly reported phone conversation between Putin and Trump in more than two months, and also the first known contact between the two leaders since the recent US-Israeli attacks on Iran.
