MOSCOW: The issue of lifting US sanctions on Russian oil exports was not discussed in detail during the recent phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
Speaking to reporters, Peskov noted that the matter was not a central topic during the talks between the two leaders.
He added that both Putin and Trump are well aware of the impact such restrictions have on the global economy. According to Peskov, the oil-related measures introduced by the United States are largely connected with attempts to stabilize global energy markets amid the current situation in the Persian Gulf.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump had stated that Washington might ease some sanctions on the oil sectors of certain countries and could refrain from reimposing them in order to help lower global oil prices.
At the same time, Russian Presidential Special Envoy for Investment and Economic Cooperation and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev, said that Moscow and Washington are discussing the possibility of easing sanctions on Russian oil.
