MOSCOW (Voice Of Russia): Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev, a senior official in the Russian Defense Ministry, was injured in an assassination attempt in northwestern Moscow and has been hospitalized, according to Russian Investigative Committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko.
Incident Details
Authorities reported that an unidentified gunman opened fire on General Alexeyev at a residential building on Volokolamskoye Highway on February 6 before fleeing the scene. The general sustained injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
Investigation Underway
The Investigative Committee has initiated a criminal investigation under Russian law, covering attempted murder and illegal firearm possession. Forensic teams are examining the site, reviewing security camera footage, and interviewing witnesses. Moscow’s prosecution office is supervising the investigation.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that security services are fully engaged and providing updates to President Vladimir Putin. Peskov emphasized that military officials and specialists face heightened risks during operations, and ensuring their safety is a top priority. The Kremlin extended wishes for a speedy recovery to General Alexeyev.
Background of General Alexeyev
Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev was born in 1961 in Golodky village, Vinnitsa Region, then part of the Ukrainian SSR. He graduated in 1984 from the Ryazan Higher Airborne Command School and started his career in military intelligence.
Alexeyev held senior positions heading intelligence directorates in both the Moscow and Far Eastern Military Districts, before transferring to the central office of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) of the Russian Armed Forces, where he led one of its departments. In 2011, he was appointed First Deputy Head of the GRU.
He has been involved in planning and supervising military operations, including the Russian campaign in Syria. His distinguished service has earned him the Hero of Russia title and multiple high honors, such as the Order of St. George (4th class), the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland” (4th class with swords), the Order of Alexander Nevsky, two Orders of Courage, and the Order “For Military Merit.”
