Moscow: Russian troops secured control of 24 settlements in the zone of the special military operation during January, based on official updates released by the Russian Defense Ministry.
The largest number of advances was reported in the Zaporozhye region, where units from the East and Dnepr battlegroups took control of ten settlements over the course of the month.
In the Donetsk People’s Republic, forces from the West and Center battlegroups captured six settlements, while in the Kharkov region, four locations came under Russian control following operations by the West and North battlegroups.
Further progress was recorded in the Sumy region, where three settlements were taken by the North battlegroup. One additional settlement was captured in the Dnepropetrovsk region by units of the East battlegroup.
Earlier, Russia’s Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov stated that during the first half of January, Russian forces had already taken control of more than 300 square kilometers of territory while advancing across multiple fronts.
Heavy Ukrainian Losses Reported
According to aggregated official data, Ukrainian forces suffered more than 38,000 casualties, including killed and wounded, during January. The highest losses were reported in areas of active fighting involving Russia’s Center battlegroup.
Russian military officials stated that operations during the month focused on degrading Ukrainian combat capabilities and maintaining steady advances along key directions.
