Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting at the Kremlin with Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, who is currently visiting Russia, the Kremlin confirmed on Friday.
According to official sources, the meeting took place without prior public announcement. No further details regarding the agenda or outcomes of the talks were immediately disclosed.
The visit comes amid heightened regional and international diplomatic activity surrounding Iran’s nuclear program and growing tensions in the Middle East. Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow is prepared to assist in reducing tensions between Iran and Israel, similar to its mediation role during the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal.
Lavrov emphasized that Russia maintains constructive relations with both Tehran and Tel Aviv, enabling it to offer diplomatic facilitation. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has also reiterated Russia’s call for restraint, urging all parties to avoid the use of force and to prioritize dialogue, stressing that diplomatic avenues have not yet been exhausted.
Meanwhile, recent statements from Washington indicate increased military pressure on Iran, while Tehran has signaled readiness to resume negotiations with the United States regarding its nuclear program, with several regional countries reportedly working to create a framework for potential talks.
Observers say Larijani’s visit underscores the continued strategic dialogue between Moscow and Tehran on key regional and international issues.
