Moscow: Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Russian Federation, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, paid a visit to the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, where discussions focused on strengthening academic and research cooperation between the two countries.
During the visit, Ambassador Tirmizi met with the Director of the Institute, Dr. Alikber Alikberov, Head of the Middle East Study Centre Dr. Vyacheslav Belokrenitskiy, members of the Pakistan Sector, and other senior scholars.

The meeting reviewed various avenues for future collaboration in academic and research fields. Participants also exchanged views on the history and development of oriental studies in the former Soviet Union and modern-day Russia. Special emphasis was placed on the scholarly contributions of Professor Yuri Gankovsky to Pakistan studies.
Ambassador Tirmizi recalled his personal meeting with Professor Gankovsky in Moscow in 1995, noting that the professor’s academic work continues to be widely respected and appreciated in Pakistan.
It was also highlighted that three scholars from the Institute of Oriental Studies have been awarded Pakistan’s high civil honor, the Sitara-e-Imtiaz, in recognition of their contributions.
The Pakistani ambassador stated that his key priority in Russia is to enhance people-to-people contacts, particularly in the academic sphere.
“We need to further expand and strengthen academic linkages,” he said.
Both sides agreed to maintain regular communication and broaden cooperation through joint academic and research initiatives.
