ISLAMABAD (Voice Of Russia):\u00a0 Russian Ambassador Albert P. Khorev has stated that the Ukraine conflict is not merely a confrontation between Russia and Ukraine, but an indirect clash with the \u201ccollective West,\u201d which he said refuses to accept the end of its global dominance.<\/p>\n
Addressing a detailed briefing, he said the conflict has become a major catalyst for the emergence of a multipolar world, the consequences of which will impact the global balance of power for years to come.<\/p>\n
The ambassador noted that the situation along the front line remains favorable for Russian forces, while Ukrainian troops, facing setbacks, are increasingly resorting to attacks on civilians and infrastructure. He cited the March 10 strike on the Russian city of Bryansk using Storm Shadow missile, which resulted in casualties.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
According to him, Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory surged dramatically in 2025, exceeding 130,000 incidents, with over 1,000 people killed, including hundreds of children. Since February 2022, civilian casualties have surpassed 26,000, he added.<\/p>\n
Despite the escalation, Khorev reiterated that Russia remains open to a negotiated settlement. He revealed that three rounds of peace talks were held in 2026, including meetings in Abu Dhabi and Geneva, with some humanitarian progress achieved, including prisoner exchanges mediated by international partners.<\/p>\n
However, he stressed that any settlement would require Ukraine to recognize the will of the people of Donbass and withdraw its forces from the region. He also made it clear that Russia opposes any ceasefire that does not address what it calls the root causes of the crisis, including NATO\u2019s expansion and policies toward Russian-speaking populations.<\/p>\n
The ambassador warned that calls for an immediate ceasefire by Kyiv and its Western allies are aimed at regrouping forces rather than achieving peace, drawing parallels with the 2015 Minsk agreements.<\/p>\n
Highlighting security concerns, he emphasized that protecting the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant remains a top priority, accusing Ukrainian forces of repeatedly shelling the facility despite risks of a nuclear disaster.<\/p>\n
He also criticized Ukraine\u2019s halt of oil transit via the Druzhba oil pipeline, warning of threats to European energy security, and condemned alleged threats made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky toward Hungarian leadership.<\/p>\n
Khorev further said Russia continues to be guided by understandings reached between President Vladimir Putin and former US President Donald Trump during their 2025 meeting in Alaska.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
On strategic stability, he expressed regret over the lack of US response to Russia\u2019s proposal to continue adhering to limits under the New START treaty, while affirming Moscow\u2019s readiness to take necessary military-technical measures if required.<\/p>\n
The ambassador also rejected European efforts to seize Russian assets, calling them illegal under international law, and warned that Russia would use all available mechanisms to defend its interests.<\/p>\n
He highlighted humanitarian efforts, noting that several children separated during the conflict have been reunited with their families, and dismissed Western claims regarding mass deportations as exaggerated.<\/p>\n
