Moscow(Voice Of Russia): Russia and Pakistan are strengthening cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including regional security, counterterrorism, energy, trade, education and multilateral diplomacy, Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Albert P. Khorev said during a recent media interaction.<\/p>\n
Ambassador Khorev stated that Moscow currently prioritizes contacts with Islamabad in the field of regional security and the fight against international terrorism. He noted that both countries are closely coordinating their efforts within multilateral platforms, particularly the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).<\/p>\n
He also highlighted growing interest in cooperation at the regional level, with Moscow, the Republic of Tatarstan and Primorsky Krai in Russia, as well as Pakistan\u2019s Punjab and Sindh provinces, expressing readiness to expand ties.<\/p>\n
According to the ambassador, Russia is placing special emphasis on strengthening relations in education, science and culture. Efforts are underway to promote the Russian language in Pakistan through initiatives such as the federal project Russian Teachers Abroad<\/em>. Moscow is also facilitating joint scientific conferences, cultural exchanges and sporting events.<\/p>\n Khorev stressed the importance of boosting mutual trade and developing reliable alternative payment mechanisms in the coming years. Among the major joint projects under discussion are the revival of Pakistan Steel Mills, the establishment of rail links between Russia and Pakistan, cooperation in hydropower, and the creation of joint ventures for pharmaceutical production, including insulin.<\/p>\n The ambassador confirmed Pakistan\u2019s interest in cooperating with Russia in oil exploration and production. He said Russia is ready to assist Pakistan in strengthening its energy sovereignty, recalling that the Soviet Union played a key role in establishing Pakistan\u2019s state-owned Oil and Gas Development Company Limited in the 1960s and helped discover several oil and gas fields in the country.<\/p>\n Khorev welcomed Pakistan\u2019s constructive role within the SCO, emphasizing that regional security and the fight against terrorism and transnational crime remain shared priorities.<\/p>\n He also noted that Russia supports Pakistan\u2019s interest in joining BRICS.
