{"id":476,"date":"2026-02-09T15:43:45","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T15:43:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/voiceofrussia.net\/en\/?p=476"},"modified":"2026-02-09T15:43:45","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T15:43:45","slug":"two-babies-among-53-people-dead-or-missing-after-boat-capsizes-off-libya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/voiceofrussia.net\/en\/2026\/02\/09\/two-babies-among-53-people-dead-or-missing-after-boat-capsizes-off-libya\/","title":{"rendered":"Two babies among 53 people dead or missing after boat capsizes off Libya"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A rubber boat \u2060carrying dozens of people has capsized off the coast of \u200cLibya, leaving at least 53 people, including two babies, \u2060dead or missing.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Monday, the International Organization for \u200cMigration (IOM) \u200csaid the vessel carrying 55 people had overturned north of the coastal city of Zuwara, in northwestern Libya, on February 6.<\/p>\n<div class=\"recommended\"><\/div>\n<p>The IOM said its teams provided two survivors with emergency medical care upon disembarkation, in coordination with the relevant authorities.<\/p>\n<p>According to the survivors, the agency said, the boat was carrying refugees and migrants from African countries.<\/p>\n<p>It had departed from Zawia, in northwestern Libya, at about 11pm on February 5 and capsized approximately six hours later, it added.<\/p>\n<p>According to the IOM\u2019s Missing Migrants Project, more than 1,300 people have gone missing on the dangerous central Mediterranean route in 2025.
