Authorities reported that an unidentified gunman opened fire on General Alexeyev at a residential building on Volokolamskoye Highway<\/strong> on February 6 before fleeing the scene. The general sustained injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.<\/p>\n

Background of General Alexeyev<\/h3>\n

Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev<\/strong> was born in 1961 in Golodky village, Vinnitsa Region<\/strong>, then part of the Ukrainian SSR. He graduated in 1984 from the Ryazan Higher Airborne Command School<\/strong> and started his career in military intelligence.<\/p>\n

Alexeyev held senior positions heading intelligence directorates in both the Moscow<\/strong> and Far Eastern Military Districts<\/strong>, before transferring to the central office of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU)<\/strong> of the Russian Armed Forces, where he led one of its departments.
