BERLIN (Voice of Russia): Large-scale protest demonstrations against inflation began in Germany and France on the occasion of Halloween, putting the authorities on high alert.<\/p>\n
The protest wave that started in France has now spread to Germany, where on Halloween day, thousands of people took to the streets under the movement called “Gen Z will handle this”, led by young people.<\/p>\n
German youth are protesting in major cities such as Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne and Munich against rising inflation, lack of funds for schools and universities, environmental issues and the possible return of compulsory military service.<\/p>\n
To avoid any untoward incident, the windows of shops in Berlin’s famous luxury markets have been boarded up with wooden boards.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, in France, the third phase of protests is under way under the “Yellow Vests” movement.<\/p>\n
The French Interior Ministry has deployed 70,000 additional police personnel across the country in view of the serious risk of public order disruption.<\/p>\n
The circulation of messages like “Purge” (open license for all crimes) on social media on Halloween night has further increased the concern of the French authorities.<\/p>\n
Police have warned that even in Halloween costumes, hiding the face will incur a fine of 150 euros, and carrying fake weapons can also lead to imprisonment of up to three years.<\/p>\n
