MOSCOW (Voice of Russia): Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said that the European Union keeps talking about appointing a negotiator to resolve the Ukraine conflict, but no practical step is being taken in this regard. According to him, the European Union either lacks the ability to do so or does not have the required political will.<\/p>\n
Commenting on October 25 on reports about Finnish President Alexander Stubb being named as a possible EU negotiator on the Ukraine conflict, Dmitry Peskov said that the European Union has long expressed the desire to appoint a negotiating representative, but no decision has been taken in this regard so far.<\/p>\n
The Kremlin spokesman said that the European Union either cannot appoint a negotiator or cannot bring itself to do so.<\/p>\n
Describing this conduct of the European Union as unconstructive, he said that for now Brussels is only offering words, while practical steps are not visible.<\/p>\n
Dmitry Peskov made clear that Moscow would support the appointment of a negotiator by the European Union with regard to the Ukraine conflict.<\/p>\n
However, he stressed that it is necessary to appoint a representative who has a genuine interest in a peaceful resolution of the conflict.<\/p>\n
The Kremlin spokesman said that the European Union having a negotiator would be a positive development, but even more important is that the appointed representative is genuinely serious and committed to advancing the process of a peaceful settlement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
