MOSCOW (Voice of Russia): Russia and Ukraine have agreed on arrangements for a local ceasefire in the city of Oleshky in the Kherson region for the delivery of humanitarian aid and the safe evacuation of civilians. According to Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova, both countries are fulfilling their obligations under the agreed arrangements.<\/p>\n
On October 24, Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova said in a statement posted on the social media platform Max that she had discussed arrangements for the proposed humanitarian mission in Oleshky with Ukraine’s Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets.<\/p>\n
She said that all matters related to the humanitarian operations are proceeding in accordance with the previously agreed arrangements and that both sides are honoring their commitments.<\/p>\n
Earlier, the White House announced on Friday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed on a ceasefire for a limited area in Oleshky, aimed at delivering humanitarian aid to affected civilians and preparing for their evacuation through a safe route.<\/p>\n
According to the US administration, this local ceasefire will come into effect from October 29, during which both countries will halt military operations in Oleshky so that food, medicine and other essential aid supplies can reach the affected population.<\/p>\n
The White House further said that an independent American media outlet will assist in this humanitarian mission and document the steps taken by Russia and Ukraine.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, General Valery Gerasimov, has announced that the Russian army will implement a local ceasefire from 4:00 a.m. Moscow time on October 27 for the humanitarian operation near Oleshky on the Kherson front.<\/p>\n
There is a difference between the Russian and American announcements regarding the ceasefire start dates, however the basic objective stated by both sides is to make the delivery of humanitarian aid and the safe evacuation of civilians possible.<\/p>\n
Earlier, on September 21, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov had described the humanitarian situation in Oleshky as extremely concerning.<\/p>\n
According to Russian officials, Ukrainian shelling and drone attacks were causing severe difficulties in the supply of food and medicine to the city.<\/p>\n
Ruslan Khomenko, head of the Oleshky district, said on October 19 that over the past week, Ukrainian forces had carried out more than 1,200 attacks on the area using artillery and drones.<\/p>\n
According to Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova, contact with her Ukrainian counterpart on the details of the humanitarian mission remains ongoing, and implementation of the agreed arrangements for aid activities in Oleshky continues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
