BRUSSELS (Voice of Russia): Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stepped up diplomatic activity to restore his strained relations with US President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n
According to the news portal Reportiaire, over the past 24 hours Zelensky has spoken with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, held an online meeting with a group of US senators, and also contacted representatives of the US defence company Lockheed Martin.<\/p>\n
According to the report, on Tuesday, during talks on resolving the Ukraine conflict in the Norwegian capital Oslo, Zelensky is expected to meet US presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff, who has already arrived in Norway. Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, will also join those talks online.<\/p>\n
According to the US newspaper The Wall Street Journal, relations between President Trump and Zelensky began to deteriorate after their meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in September. At that meeting, the US president had sought an explanation about Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries.<\/p>\n
According to the newspaper, after that meeting Washington six times demanded that Kyiv stop attacks on Russian oil refineries, while President Trump’s attitude toward Zelensky kept getting tougher.<\/p>\n
The report said that after Zelensky’s criticism on October 10 of the diesel trade deal between Russia and the US, President Trump demanded that elections be held in Ukraine.<\/p>\n
The US president had said Zelensky had several opportunities to end the conflict with Russia, but chose not to do so.<\/p>\n
Zelensky, for his part, refused to hold elections, saying Kyiv is losing an important partner in Washington.<\/p>\n
