MOSCOW (Voice of Russia): The Russian Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the issuance of an arrest warrant in the United States against former Cuban president Raul Castro, calling the move unacceptable.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said the decision by a judge in the US city of Miami to issue an arrest warrant for Cuba’s historic leader and military general Raul Castro is completely unacceptable for Russia, and Moscow strongly condemns the move.<\/p>\n
According to reports, a court in the US state of Florida issued an arrest warrant on Monday against the 95-year-old former Cuban president Raul Castro.<\/p>\n
US authorities had filed criminal charges in May this year against Raul Castro, one of the key leaders of the Cuban revolution. He faces four charges of murder, two charges of destroying two aircraft, and a charge of conspiracy to murder US citizens.<\/p>\n
Besides Raul Castro, five more people have been named as accused in the case.<\/p>\n
According to the US broadcaster CBS News, the charges may be linked to a 1996 incident in which the Cuban air force shot down two aircraft of the Miami-based Cuban exile organization Brothers to the Rescue.<\/p>\n
According to the report, prosecutors in the US state of Florida reopened the investigation into the incident at the start of this year.<\/p>\n
