WASHINGTON (Voice of Russia): US President Donald Trump has suspended a major part of the plan to impose new sanctions on Russia. At the same time, he said that Iran’s entire leadership has been eliminated and no one is left to talk to.<\/p>\n
According to a British news agency, the decision came at a time when Trump has adopted a relatively soft stance on Russia and has also openly criticised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.<\/p>\n
Under the proposed plan, the United States was to be given the authority to impose tariffs of up to 100 percent on all imports from Russia, including crude oil and gas. A prominent supporter of the plan was US Senator Lindsey Graham, who recently passed away.<\/p>\n
Under the proposed law, the United States could also take action against countries that knowingly buy oil or gas from Russia within 30 days of the law coming into force, or that are among the five major countries helping Russia evade sanctions.<\/p>\n
The decision to suspend the sanctions came a week after Trump’s announcement in which he said that the United States had agreed to buy diesel from Russia in order to bring down energy prices around the world.<\/p>\n
In mid-September, Trump signed a bill called the ‘Lindsey Graham Act’ to impose sanctions on Russia and Iran.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, the US President said that perhaps he had been somewhat too harsh with the Iranian leaders, because now no one is left for him to talk to.<\/p>\n
Addressing an election rally in Georgia, he once again claimed that the war with Iran would end very soon, and that the United States has the capability to listen to all conversations of Iranian officials and leaders.<\/p>\n
Speaking at an election rally ahead of the US midterm elections, Trump said that certainly this is a secret and confidential matter, but he had now revealed it.<\/p>\n
In another part of his address, the US President described the war with Iran as a military exercise.<\/p>\n
