MOSCOW (Voice of Russia): Russian President Vladimir Putin has awarded the head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, the high military rank of Army General.<\/p>\n
At a ceremony held in the Chechen capital Grozny, the head of the Russian National Guard, Viktor Zolotov, presented Kadyrov with the new Army General shoulder boards and the maroon beret, regarded as the symbol of special forces.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the ceremony, Viktor Zolotov said that President Vladimir Putin had entrusted him with delivering the presidential order to Kadyrov, under which he was promoted from Colonel General to the rank of Army General.<\/p>\n
According to the head of the Russian National Guard, Kadyrov was given this rank in recognition of operations against terrorism and extremism, ensuring Russia’s internal and public security, developing special forces, and supporting military units carrying out combat missions.<\/p>\n
Zolotov said that Kadyrov personally took part in operations against armed groups, while the Chechen leadership also played an important role in training various units of the Defense Ministry and the National Guard and providing them with modern equipment.<\/p>\n
Accepting the honor, Kadyrov said he accepted the rank as an advance vote of confidence. According to him, responsibility grows with rank and honor, and he will have to achieve further successes in the tasks assigned to him.<\/p>\n
Kadyrov had previously been given the rank of Colonel General in October 2022. Army General is among the highest active ranks in Russia’s current military system. Above it is the rank of Marshal of the Russian Federation, which was last awarded in 1997.<\/p>\n
The ceremony was attended by the senior leadership of the Russian National Guard, commanders of the North Caucasus District, military personnel and other officials. On the occasion, various personnel were also given state and departmental awards in recognition of bravery and service.<\/p>\n
Kadyrov also presented the head of the Russian National Guard, Viktor Zolotov, with the “Hero of the Chechen Republic” honor, while the deputy head of the National Guard, Colonel General Anatoly Malikow, was decorated with the Order of Kadyrov.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
