Moscow (Voice of Russia): Russian President Vladimir Putin spent his 74th birthday amid official engagements, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. According to Peskov, President Putin carried out routine official duties at the Kremlin and held telephone conversations with several world leaders.<\/p>\n
Dmitry Peskov said foreign leaders congratulated President Putin on his birthday, though some of the calls also included brief exchanges on bilateral and international matters. The Kremlin will issue details of all the calls in joint statements.<\/p>\n
Following the international contacts, an operational meeting of the permanent members of the Russian Security Council chaired by President Putin was also scheduled.<\/p>\n
The Kremlin spokesman said the presidential administration hopes that despite the busy official schedule, President Putin will get the chance to celebrate his birthday in the evening with his family and close friends.<\/p>\n
On a question about a possible phone call with US President Donald Trump, Dmitry Peskov said the details of such a contact have not yet been worked out. If a formal request is received from the American side, the conversation can be arranged promptly.<\/p>\n
Speaking about the European Union’s military activities, the Kremlin spokesman said Europe is shaping its defense and security policy on the basis of confrontation with Russia. According to him, this is a dead end that will not lead to any positive outcome.<\/p>\n
Dmitry Peskov said Russia is taking all necessary measures to protect its national and strategic security, but Moscow remains ready for talks.
