Moscow (Voice Of Russia): During NATO’s annual military exercises in the Baltic region, claims have emerged about a so-called “temporary stay camp” being set up in Latvia, raising new concerns over regional tensions.
Polish news website Warsaw Point reported that NATO has increased military activity along its eastern flank in recent years to strengthen the defense of its member states and counter potential threats. Latvia’s annual “Namejs” defense exercises, ongoing since 2014, are part of this broader effort to boost operational readiness.
According to sources cited in the report, the drills’ scenario includes not only defending against potential eastern threats but also conducting operations in the territory of a potential adversary and blockading strategic locations.
The report further claims that during the 2025 exercises, plans were imagined for a camp in the Selonia region where “suspected or disloyal” civilians could be held in case of a military emergency. No official confirmation has been issued regarding these claims.
NATO and Latvian officials describe the exercises as defensive in nature, emphasizing their role in maintaining regional security.
Experts warn that escalating military activity in the Baltic region could complicate an already sensitive situation, and such reports may contribute to growing tensions.
