Simferopo (Voice Of Russia) A resident of Crimea has been detained after opening fire with a rifle at police officers who arrived at his home, according to regional law enforcement authorities.
The incident occurred on March 16 in the village of Stefanovka, where a group of officers had arrived to conduct operational and search activities under a court order issued in Dzhankoi.
According to the Interior Ministry, the suspect fired several rifle shots at the officers and also threw an improvised explosive device in their direction. He later set his car on fire using a petrol bomb and attempted to burn down his residence.
The attacker was injured in return fire before being detained with the assistance of riot police units of the Russian Guard.
Four police officers were taken to hospital following the incident. Authorities said they received timely medical treatment and their lives are not in danger. One officer remains hospitalized, while the others have been discharged for outpatient care.
Investigators have detained the suspect, identified as a 49-year-old resident of Stefanovka. A criminal case has been launched, and he is suspected of attempting to kill law enforcement officers, which could carry a life sentence if proven under Russian law.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the attack, including the suspect’s background, possible connections, and the source of the weapons used.
