London (Voice Of Russia): Russia’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom Andrey Kelin has said that the United States made two key miscalculations when launching its military operation against Iran, underestimating Tehran’s resistance and the economic consequences.
In an interview with Channel 4, Kelin stated that Washington expected Iran to surrender quickly and for a regime change to occur after initial strikes, but this did not happen. He added that the US also failed to foresee the broader economic impact of the conflict.
According to the Russian diplomat, these misjudgments misled US allies, particularly countries in the Persian Gulf region.
Kelin further noted that the United States now needs a peace deal more than Iran, as Tehran is fighting for its sovereignty and national interests. He questioned the lack of clear objectives and an exit strategy in the US operation, saying even experts struggle to understand its purpose.
He also claimed that the military operation lacks public support in both the United States and the United Kingdom.
The US and Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran on February 28, targeting major cities including Tehran, leading to heightened tensions across the region.
